In 1997, Switzerland ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). This year, Switzerland will submit a report to the relevant UN committee in New York on the status of implementation of the Convention. In an easy-to-read brochure, the FDFA and the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE) explain the new law.
The Swiss enlargement contribution in support of the new EU Member States successfully entered the implementation phase in 2008. The concept paper has been elaborated to clarify and update SDC’s position on the topic and provide guidance to its staff and partners. Part one identifies the essential elements of the rule of law. Part two deals with the trends and challenges of the integration of the rule of law in legal and judicial reform projects and programmes. Part three illustrates the rule of law dimension in the legal and judicial programmes and in other areas of development cooperation through examples from SDC’s experience.
This Report on the Effectiveness of Swiss development cooperation in the field of access to drinking water is directed at the general public and renders an account of successes achieved through implemented measures, but also on problems encountered and existing challenges. External specialists carried out indepth analysis of twenty-three bilateral and multilateral measures. Project beneficiaries also took part in this assessment. Thanks to programmes that Switzerland has implemented over the past five years, the number of people with improved access to drinking water and sanitation has increased by around 370,000 each year. Access to irrigation has also increased by about 30,000 people each year.
