China Strategy

China is Switzerland’s third-largest trading partner after the European Union and the United States, and one of the global priority countries for Swiss foreign policy. Swiss interests also uphold values such as democracy, the rule of law and human rights. Switzerland and China frequently do not see eye to eye where these values are concerned, making dialogue about our differences all the more important. By adopting the current strategy, Switzerland has confirmed its willingness to pursue an independent policy towards China.
