On Tuesday, 13 November 2012, Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter will represent Switzerland at the joint meeting of the Ecofin Council of EU Economics and Finance Ministers with their counterparts from the EFTA States. This informal meeting will focus on financial market integration and economic growth.

Tomorrow, Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter will take part in the meeting of the EU Council of Economics and Finance Ministers (Ecofin) and the Economics Ministers of the EFTA States to be held in Brussels. This so-called “Joint Ecofin” Council takes place every year in November. 

This year’s meeting of the “Joint Ecofin” Council will focus on the current situation of the financial market as well as on measures for its stabilisation with a view to future growth. In this connection, Federal Councillor Burkhalter will present an analysis of the situation of the financial market from the Swiss point of view along with his comments on the planned regulation of the financial market.

The Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) will be representing the Federal Council at this informal event. Swiss President and Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, who is responsible for the dossier, will be detained in Bern for meetings with two parliamentary committees.
