The year 2014 marks ten years since the OSCE’s Ministerial Council adopted the Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality. While achievements have been made, challenges remain before gender equality is fully realised across the OSCE region. To mark this anniversary and take stock of the progress achieved so far, the OSCE is organising a Gender Equality Review Conference with the support of the Swiss Chairmanship.
The conference brings together national stakeholders from government, civil society and academia from across the OSCE region in order to examine gaps in the implementation of the Action Plan over the past ten years and to propose solutions for the future. The conference focuses on more systematic implementation of the Action Plan and on activities to promote equal opportunities for men and women, particularly in the areas of peace and security, women's economic empowerment, women’s political and public participation, and domestic violence.
