Program contribution to Caritas Switzerland, 2023-2024

End poverty in all its forms and dimensions by covering basic needs, increasing equality of opportunities and strengthening resilience.

Globally, Caritas provides emergency relief in disasters and is actively involved in reconstruction work. With its projects in development cooperation, Caritas supports children and adults in the areas of income, climate and migration.

In 2021, the international cooperation (IC) Program encompassed 91 projects in 15 Country Organizations in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. 

1. 58,795 people improved their employment situation (55% of the 2021-2022 target)
2. 151,923 people benefitted from climate-sensitive measures (72% of the 2021 – 2022 target)
3. CACH covered the basic needs and enhanced the protection of 125,574 people in displacement settings (47% of the 2021 – 2022 target)
4. CACH responded to an increasing humanitarian need, with 98,218 people having been enabled to cover their basic needs (51% of end of the 2021 – 2022 target)

1. CACH focused on revising three instruments in view of strengthening civil society and increasing the quality of partnership, namely Partner Contract, Partner Risk Assessment and Partner Capacity Development Tool. Capacity development of local partners took place in 71% of projects through support services, trainings and advocacy. CACH actively participated in the Learning Journey with SDC on “Strengthening Civil Society and Country Ownership”, including as a member of the Core Working Group.
2. A systematic approach to program baselines and targets applied in 2021 led to updated targets for 2021-22 and a revised results framework for 2023-24. A new impact strategy was elaborated and the impact orientation was professionalized through the introduction of a new standard indicators system and a dashboard. 
3. The Nexus remains one of the focus areas and several projects with the nexus approach were implemented in 2021. CACH actively participated in the nexus exchange events organized by SDC and shared its experiences.

1. Youth, women, smallholders and other vulnerable groups increased their income thanks to improved skills and a more inclusive market system
2. Communities at risk of climate change sustainably improved their livelihoods through increased adaptive capacities and energy efficiency measures
3. By covering their basic needs and enhancing their socio-economic inclusion, refugees and migrants are better protected, increase their self-sufficiency and are able to contribute to the development of their countries of origin, transit, and destination
4. Communities affected by humanitarian crises can cover their basic needs

1. Caritas Switzerland strengthens civil society and country ownership in accordance with the provisions of the “OECD-DAC Recommendation on Enabling Civil Society” and the relevant GPEDC principles
2. Caritas Switzerland designs the projects in a consistently impact-oriented manner and optimizes its Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) system, while also conducting a dialogue with SDC on this topic
3. SDC and Caritas Switzerland share experiences and good practices in a common learning process on the topic of the Nexus (humanitarian aid and development)
