Liechtenstein is the only country in the world named after the family name of the ruling monarch. Although it is a small nation situated between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein holds one of the most extensive private art collections in the world. The exhibition at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum comprises about 130 pieces from the princely collection, including some by Rubens, Jan Brueghel the Elder, and Lucas Cranach the Elder, and features many other masterpieces from the Northern Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. Porcelain works reflecting the tastes of some of the most prominent aristocrats in Europe will also be on display.
