Switzerland upholds the universal values of human rights and human dignity for every individual, irrespective of sexual orientation. Our commitment to equality and the fight against all forms of discrimination remains central to our national and international efforts, particularly in the countries this Embassy represents—Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.

Through active engagement in international organizations and close collaboration with diverse partners, Switzerland strives to ensure that the rights of all are protected and upheld. 

We oppose laws that target individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, as they are inconsistent with international human rights standards.

The situation of Dr. Situmbeko is being closely monitored by the Embassy, and we will continue to engage with relevant authorities to advocate for respect for human dignity and fundamental freedoms.

Furthermore, we would like to emphasize that the Ambassador of Switzerland will raise this specific case during his official visit to Zambia, scheduled for early October. This will provide an important opportunity to highlight the issue directly with relevant stakeholders and reinforce Switzerland's commitment to human rights.

Switzerland remains firmly committed to supporting global efforts aimed at repealing punitive laws targeting LGBTIQ+ communities and upholding the rights of every individual.
