After arriving in the country on Tuesday, 8 June, Mr Parmelin will visit a school in Vrtojba, the refurbishment of which was partly financed by funds from Switzerland’s EU enlargement contribution. The official talks with President Pahor and Prime Minister Janša will take place on Wednesday, 9 June. Mr Parmelin will also hold talks in Ljubljana with Economic Development and Technology Minister Zdravko Počivalšek and National Assembly Speaker Igor Zorčič. The programme will be rounded off with a visit to a Swiss-Slovenian pharmaceutical company in Mengeš in the heart of the country.
Between 2007 and 2017, relations between Switzerland and Slovenia benefitted from cooperation on projects related to Switzerland’s EU enlargement contribution. Since then there have also been very positive developments in terms of economic exchanges, with bilateral trade volumes reaching an all-time high last year in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. The main driver of this growth has been the pharmaceuticals industry.
Swiss companies, especially from the pharmaceutical sector, are among the leading investors in Slovenia. Very good contacts also exist in the science and research sector and on environmental issues, as well as within the framework of the Alpine Convention.
