Cook & Janitor at the Swiss Residence in Muscat

Introduction:
We are currently looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Cook and Janitor at the Residence of the Head of Mission (HoM). This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in cooking and housekeeping, paired with a commitment to excellence and keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, perform well also under pressure, and demonstrate a high degree of flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Cooking:
- Prepare and cook meals for the Head of Mission and guests, ensuring high-quality dishes are consistently served.
- Plan and organize menus for special events, considering dietary preferences and restrictions.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment at all times.
- Manage kitchen inventory and ensure the timely procurement of supplies.
Housekeeping:
- Clean and maintain the Residence to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, including regular housekeeping tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, ironing, changing linens and towels, doing laundry, pressing clothing and linens, and properly handling and disposing of waste.
- Supervise refurbishment and repair works at the Residence if applicable.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up during events or receptions at the Residence.
- Proactively organize repair services in case of malfunctions (e.g., Wi-Fi, electricity, plumbing etc..), and ensure all equipment and appliances are maintained in a safe and sanitary working condition.
Other Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with Embassy guidelines at all times.
- Drive the Head of Mission and/or their spouse upon request.
- Provide first aid and fire-fighting assistance in case of emergency.
- Handle any other duties related to the Residence, as assigned by the Head of Mission or supervisor.
Requirements & Skills:
- At least 5 years’ experience as a cook, with solid knowledge of international cooking, and a willingness and ability to learn and prepare Swiss recipes.
- Strong housekeeping skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Highly motivated, committed, and team-oriented, with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work outside official working hours, including evenings and weekends for receptions and special events.
- High level of integrity, tact, discretion, and loyalty.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and firefighting.
- Previous experience working at the Head of Mission’s Residence is desirable.
- Solid spoken English skills (essential for communication with the team and guests).
- Car driver’s license
