The Goethe Institute held its annual German Language Teachers conference in Wellington and Switzerland was the guest of honour. Ambassador Marion Weichelt addressed the teachers in the morning, showcasing the richness of the Swiss culture, the direct democracy political structure and the beauty of the landscape as well as explaining how Switzerland is a country where students can use their German, French and Italian language skills.
In the evening, the teachers were guests at the Ambassador’s residence where Swiss cheese and other delicacies were served. The teachers were then able to socialise in an informal setting and reflect on the day’s activities.
Several books in German by Swiss authors were on display and secondary schools around New Zealand will be receiving these books for use in their classrooms.
