This significant initiative highlights the dedication of both organizations to enhancing the health and well-being of children in Mongolia and across the region.
The Heart Never Forgets project plans to extend its humanitarian efforts beyond Mongolia, targeting Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and North Korea. The project is designed to foster the exchange of expertise and knowledge between medical professionals, ultimately reaching thousands of children in need of cardiovascular examinations and life-saving surgeries.
In the first phase of the Regional Paediatric Heart Examination and Surgery project, Bundan NGO examined over 1,200 children with congenital heart defects (CHD), including more than 50 Afghan, 110 Kyrgyz, and 1,000 Mongolian children and adults. The project successfully performed life-saving open-heart surgeries on 53 children, including two patients from Afghanistan, 11 from Kyrgyzstan, and seven from Mongolia.
Bundan NGO visited 14 of Mongolia’s most remote provinces and conducted cardiovascular examinations for over 1,500 children and adults. More than 3,000 examinations were carried out, resulting in 277 children undergoing successful heart surgeries.
Under the leadership of cardiologist Dr. Boldsaikhan Bundan, the project not only aims to improve individual lives but also to promote regional solidarity. Successful open-heart surgeries performed in Mongolia on two children from Kyrgyzstan exemplify the promising start of this partnership.
The project team encourages public involvement in its life-saving mission. Contributions and support can help create a healthier and brighter future for these children. This partnership is a profound commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of children throughout the region. SDC’s continued support is vital to the mission's success, and the positive impact of this collaboration is eagerly anticipated.
The project partnership signing ceremony held last May was attended by the project’s initiator, Dr. Boldsaikhan, Executive Director of Bundan NGO Mrs. O. Narantuya, Minister of Foreign Affairs B. Battsetseg, Member of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation and President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Laurent Wehrli, Swiss Ambassador to Mongolia Jürg Burri, Deputy Director General of the SDC Ambassador Arno Wicki, Head of the Swiss Cooperation in Mongolia Dr. Stefanie Burri, and other distinguished guests.
