Switzerland to take part in high-level conference on Middle East and two-state solution

Press releases, 25.07.2025

France and Saudi Arabia will co-chair the high-level international conference to promote a lasting peace in the Middle East and the implementation of the two-state solution. The conference will be held from 28 to 30 July 2025 in New York, under the auspices of the United Nations. Switzerland will be taking part alongside numerous international partners.

The Swiss delegation will be led by Ambassador Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, head of the FDFA's Middle East and North Africa Division. The title of state secretary will be conferred upon her for the occasion.

The aim of the conference is to contribute to the implementation of UN resolutions on the question of Palestine and the two-state solution in order to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. The conference is based on a mandate from the UN General Assembly on 19 September 2024 and will be co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. Initially scheduled for June, the conference was postponed due to the escalating violence in the Middle East at the time.

By taking part in the conference, Switzerland is reaffirming its desire to continue to work, through diplomatic channels, for a lasting political solution to the Middle East conflict, based on the two-state solution and international law. Switzerland is convinced that this is the only solution that can ensure peace, security and dignity for the Israeli and Palestinian people.
