In Luxembourg, the 46 member states of the Council of Europe took stock of the progress made in implementing the priorities set at the Reykjavik Summit in May 2023. The Committee of Ministers also approved a roadmap for the ‘New Democratic Pact’. This initiative, which was put forward by Secretary General of the Council of Europe and former Federal Councillor Alain Berset, aims to strengthen the resilience of Europe's democracies.
Mr Fasel reaffirmed Switzerland's support for the values of the Council of Europe. He announced a new contribution of CHF 1.4 million to the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2025 and 2026. The funds will facilitate social and economic recovery and contribute to Ukraine's reconstruction by supporting institutions in line with the principles agreed at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano. On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr Fasel also held a number of bilateral talks.
