This summer, the Embassy of Switzerland invited nine artists from Switzerland to pursue residencies in China as part of the CH><CN Studios program. We also invited seven Chinese artists with international study or work experience to participate. As a major outcome of the Swiss Embassy’s “CH><CN Studio” project, Breakdown Playlist brings together the latest works of these 16 emerging artists from both countries.
Sponsored by Pro Helvetia Shanghai, three energetic and active Swiss projects will be touring seven Chinese cities in November in China. Join them if you wish to get away and enjoy freedom through music. 2m2 is the result of teamwork between China’s noise experimenter Mei Zhiyong, and the eclectic Swiss drummer Maxime Hänsenberger. An explosive collaboration is to be expected! Also joining the league are PURPURA and NuR, Andrea Nucamendi’s and Claudia Cerri’s solo projects of abstract and experimental electronic music, promising to give the audience a feast of sound.

Five Easy Pieces, concept, text and direction by Milo Rau, a Swiss theatre and film director, journalist, essayist and lecturer, is a profound, funny and confrontational experience that blends realism and brutality, probing the limits of what children know, feel, and do and initiating them in the emotional and political absurdities of the adult world. Using performers aged under 13, and the biography of the country’s most notorious criminal, child killer Marc Dutroux, the performance sketches a brief history of Belgium and reflects on the (re)presentation of human feelings on stage.
