Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the OSCE, the United Nations and other international organizations! Here you will find useful information on Switzerland's positions in multilateral Vienna and on the services provided by the Mission. More than 30 international organizations have their headquarters in Vienna, making the metropolis on the Danube a weighty hub of multilateral diplomacy. As Switzerland's Ambassador to the OSCE and the UN in Vienna, it is an honour for me to represent Switzerland in some of the most important international organizations.
The Permanent Mission of Switzerland (Mission Vienna) is a centre of excellence for Swiss security, peace and human rights policy, and we are also committed to prosperity, the rule of law and sustainable development. The Mission Vienna represents Swiss interests and positions at international organizations in Vienna. It ensures the exchange between Swiss authorities, parliamentarians and multilateral institutions based in Vienna. In addition, it provides significant input for Swiss delegations, supports or accompanies them and establishes contacts with decision-makers from various organizations.
We live in a time of manifold challenges. The war in Ukraine is changing security in Europe. The OSCE has been committed to security through cooperation for almost 50 years - and this is more necessary today than ever before. Drug policy, crime and the fight against corruption are at the heart of the work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) coordinate nuclear security and non-proliferation issues. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) engages in industrial development. Civilian uses of space are regulated by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). All these challenges are too big for any one country to tackle - so it is in Switzerland's interest to have functioning multilateral cooperation and to strengthen internationally respected rules in these areas. This is what Mission Vienna is committed to every day.
Thank you very much for your interest in our work!
