Public event
Location: Online
Crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic have demonstrated the necessity for countries to have robust statistical capacities. Accurate and timely data are essential to better manage emergencies, make informed policy decisions and increase government accountability. The potential of data to support inclusive sustainable development and poverty reduction is enormous, but a changing data landscape also comes with risks and challenges. How can the full potential of data for sustainable development be unleashed? How can data be used in more secure and ethical ways, while also delivering value equitably?
These are the questions that the World Bank addresses in the latest edition of its flagship World Development Report, titled "Data for Better Lives". At this event, the authors of the report will present their key findings and recommendations. A panel with representatives from the World Bank, the private sector, academia and the federal administration will share examples and discuss how different stakeholders can contribute to leveraging the potential of data for achieving the goals set in the 2030 Agenda. The discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to engage with the panellists and World Bank experts.
The event will take place virtually on Webex and will be held in English.
Interested participants can register until 13 September 2021.
