Whether in Switzerland or in developing countries, nowhere is the topic of young people's day-to-day human rights so tangible as in relation to public security. The police and the judiciary have a key role to play in protecting young people's human rights. At the same time, they also have to set boundaries whenever young people fail to respect the rights of others.

Marking the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Swiss Agency for Development (SDC) is organising a panel discussion on international Human Rights Day 2018 in association with the City of Bern, Amnesty International Switzerland and the Polit-Forum Bern.
The talks will focus on the role of the judiciary and the police in relation to the protection – or violation – of young people's rights. They will cover a range of issues from the day-to-day experience of young people in Bern and the practices of the judicial system in Bern to the situation in the SDC's partner countries.
