UNICEF EMOPS Core Contribution 2022-2023

UNICEF is an indispensable UN partner to support the needs of children. The Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS) ensures that the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) role in complex emergencies is clearly defined, the organization properly equipped and prepared to deliver its mandate. The SDC/HA’s support to EMOPS in Geneva enables UNICEF to lead inter-agency humanitarian coordination, response and standard setting in the fields of Water and Sanitation (WASH), Education, Nutrition and Child Protection.

Hintergrund Wherever there is a crisis – disaster, public health emergency or conflict – UNICEF strives to reach children and families in the hardest hit regions with lifesaving resources. More than 450 million children globally in 2020 – are now living in areas affected by conflict – the highest number in 20 years. The outbreak of COVID-19 further worsened the situation of children that were already left behind. Ziele UNICEF’s response in crisis and complex emergencies is delivered fast, effective and supported by coordinated principled humanitarian action, in line with UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs).
