Hintergrund |
The international environment is characterized by numerous multiple crises. The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the escalation in the Middle East, food insecurity, debt burden and inflation, climate change and the energy crisis are all having a direct impact on the world's population. They particularly affect the most vulnerable, mostly women and children and result in increasing humanitarian needs. Accelerated change is accompanied by increased uncertainty: The world is becoming more fragmented, unstable and unpredictable. Whilst the vision to reach the Sustainable Development Goals remains, challenges including the global food and nutrition crisis, shrinking civic and humanitarian space, the erosion of rule of law, intensifying armed conflicts, more frequent climate-related disasters, international migration and internal displacement, exacerbated demographics and an important gender gap hamper progress in reaching them and pose a main challenge for all actors engaged in Switzerland’s International Cooperation. The marginalised and vulnerable people Interaction works with are particularly affected by such crises in fragile contexts. These developments confirm Interaction’s approach to further integrate development work, peacebuilding and humanitarian aid. Some of Interaction intervention countries – such as South Sudan, Chad, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) - are identified as having the lowest performance in women's inclusion, justice, and security. |

Resultate des Engagement der Organisation der vorangehenden Phase |
Improved Living Conditions: Basic living conditions for targeted marginalised groups have significantly improved through educational approaches across various sectors. Food insecurity has decreased from 70% to 68%, safely managed drinking water services increased from 5% to 53% of the target population, and patient satisfaction with health services increased from 88% to 94%. Educational Opportunities: Access to quality education for marginalised children and young people has been enhanced, although the percentage of children achieving primary school certificates decreased from 60% to 45%, primarily due to challenging contexts in Burkina Faso and Chad. Resilience and Participation: Resilience capacities of vulnerable groups were strengthened, with productive and sustainable agriculture practices increasing from 37% to 48% of the agricultural area, and 61% of micro-businesses operating sustainably. However, inclusive decision-making at the community level decreased from 44 % to 37%. Expertise in Faith-based Cooperation: Interaction enhanced its role as a center of expertise in faith-based international cooperation, with the number of organizations qualifying for SDC contributions increasing to 6. |
Resultate des Schweizer Engagement der vorangehenden Phase |
Strengthening Civil Society and Country Ownership: Interaction has significantly contributed to exchanges and consultations with the SDC and Swiss NGOs with lessons learned and best practices from its Localisation & Equitable Partnerships learning process. PSEAH and Gender Equality: Gender mainstreaming and PSEAH (Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment) have been prioritised. The PSEAH learning group improved policies across member organisations, with a comprehensive PSEAH system supported by extensive training. Increased Effectiveness through Cooperation: Enhanced cooperation through evaluative studies and synergies in M&E tools has been achieved. Bangladesh and Uganda were identified for integrated programming in the 2025-28 programme. Interaction's support in M&E has improved efficiency and transparency providing valuable insights for programme improvement of the member organisations. |
