UNRWA - Contribution to UNRWA's 2022 Emergency Appeal for Lebanon
In Lebanon, the needs of Palestine refugees have been exacerbated by the multiple crises hitting the country over the past 2 years. UNRWA plays an important role in preserving the resilience of Palestine refugees and in preserving stability in the region. Switzerland therefore responds to UNRWA’s Syria, Lebanon and Jordan Emergency Appeal 2022 by earmarking its support to the emergency needs of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, including provision of cash and food assistance.

Background |
Palestine refugees in Lebanon receive health, education and social services from UNRWA. The deteriorating situation in Lebanon is impacting heavily Palestine refugees who were already among the most vulnerable communities. In the context of growing impoverishment of the Palestine refugees, reliance on UNRWA is expected to increase in 2022. Under this appeal, UNAWA will strive to maintain access to basic services for Palestine refugees bearing in mind that the Agency’s budget did not increase but is faced with the increased prices of basic essential services in Lebanon due to the lifting of subsidies and rising inflation. |
Objectives | Preserve resilience through the provision of humanitarian assistance, ensuring that the most vulnerable refugees meet their basic needs. |
Target groups | Vulnerable Palestine refugees from Lebanon and from Syria, affected by the compounded crises in Lebanon. |
Medium-term outcomes | Crises affected Palestine refugee households have increased access to emergency humanitarian services in Lebanon. |
